The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an organization tasked by the United Nations to support the response to climate change globally.
Concerns are rising about the state of Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves. Meanwhile, the President oversees the rapid degradation of the environment. Yet, somehow, he got invited to such an event.
Which says a lot about the organizing entity. Is the UN really concerned about the environment or is it all performative? Because they cannot in good conscience claim not to know that majority of our water bodies have been poisoned with dangerous chemicals. These chemicals are in turn seeping into our crops. We export these crops and in turn poison the rest of the world.

Currently Ghana’s cocoa has been found to contain lead and cadmium. This was discovered after Lindt, a prestigious Swiss chocolatier was hit with a class action lawsuit for having harmful contaminants in their chocolate. Lindt sources a significant amount of cocoa from Ghana.
With global poisoning being Ghana’s only contribution to the world currently, it seems quite disingenuous for the UNFCCC to have President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo as a guest and a speaker. He was definitely the elephant in the room.

The most interesting part of the speech was towards the end where he said:
“As a father and a grandfather, I question what we will leave behind. What world will we leave behind? Our children’s’ future hinges on our decisions.”
This is a very interesting quote from a man who gave his country’s children a subpar secondary education while feeding them contaminated food.
